Last night, Lil Uzi Vert dropped a new song and video, “Free Uzi,” which is the first music that he’s released since he announced that he was retiring from the business three months ago. There’s lots of eye-catching fashion in the visual—from a graphic Issey Miyake T-shirt to a jacket that almost looks like a cityscape as seen through a kaleidoscope, all the way down to Uzi’s highlighter-yellow sneakers—but it’s his bejeweled Marilyn Manson pendant that shines the brightest.

At first, the piece looks boxy enough to resemble a flask, not a face. Though, if you’re up on Uzi’s Manson fandom, then that menacing visage is hard to miss. When Uzi first entered the widespread public consciousness in the “Bad and Boujee” music video, he was wearing an old Marilyn Manson tour T-shirt from 1997 (which you can buy for yourself on Grailed for the reduced price of $283), and the young rapper’s nouveau mall-goth style continues to bear Manson’s influence. Uzi finally met his idol two years ago, after which Manson said he would likely work on Uzi’s next album. (Manson also said that Uzi wanted help finding older women, to which the rocker responded: “Everyone is older than you because you just turned 22.”)

The pendant in question is a blinged-out version of Manson’s Paper cover shoot from 2015, which depicted the rock star in a suit while wearing Mickey Mouse ears. Uzi reportedly paid $100,000 to get the chain made back in 2017, and according to jeweler Ben Baller, it’s composed of a 100-carat diamond spiked choker and a 55-carat black and white diamond pendant. A full two years later and Uzi is still wearing the chain proudly, proving once and for all that Uzi’s Manson fandom wasn’t just a passing obsession—his goth phase remains in full swing.
